The password rules and recovery are some of the worst practices they can possibly recommend, and yet, they do, and force them on you too. Challenge questions that are public information? Evil password requirements that modern hackers can break in milliseconds? Pissing off users and wasting their time on insecure practices? And I am supposed to trust the entire financial history of my business to a company that intentionally makes me insecure at every turn.

This is horrid software that discounts both the user experience and the user's security. A software company is recommending a password that can be cracked in less than 10 milliseconds on any modern PC? These people should be sued into oblivion for malpractice. Astonishing malpractice. I ended up calling Intuit's tech support and letting the rep take control of my computer.

She downloaded QuickBooks 11 for me and loaded my company onto that, then from there, she was able to load it into the QuickBooks I still had issues in that it would not let me change my password, so I called back again and the rep ended up having me send my data to whatever department checks it to make sure it's not corrupted.

They sent it back to me and I still had issues with the password thing, so I had to call back. I do think the password thing is somewhat of a nuisance since you need to change it every ninety days or so and I didn't need a password for QuickBooks 7, but other than that I love it.

I also thought their service department was top notch. I've been using Quickbooks since This is only my 3rd new copy. Everything looks very very similar to QB My setup is relatively simple because I don't do payroll, online banking, or anything that requires the internet unless I want software updates from Intuit. My QB hadn't been updated in 6 years and still worked fine so I'm not worried about updates and maybe will just turn them off so Intuit will have no reason to access my data.

I use QB to track my personal finances which includes a couple of rental properties. In fact just today I was comparing annual property tax refunds and suddenly noticed that I hadn't received one in The state revenue dept says they never received the return from my accountant! Just one more reason why I'm doing my own taxes from now on. Anyway, without QB I wouldn't have known. It paid for itself about 10x over. I did spend at least 8 hours researching and installing the new QB.

From manufacturing to non-profit, small businesses across a wide range of industries have long been using QuickBooks to track their balance sheets and income statements. And while QuickBooks has done an impressive job of incorporating features that play well across most industries, their software continues to fall short when it comes to trust accounting. QuickBooks is not tailored to meet the unique and complex regulations of trust accounting, and so using the software to manage your trust account comes with inherent risks and complications.

But what are those risks and how do you identify them? Complex Setup. The setup process alone is in-depth and forces you to configure the chart of accounts into new and strange formats that work with parent or umbrella accounts and subaccounts. Client Balance Oversight. Instead, QuickBooks allows users to process a check for any amount, regardless of whether there are enough funds associated with that specific client in the trust account. Without proper oversight, the possibilities for non-compliant overdrafts are endless.

Three-Way Reconciliation. Given that three-way reconciliations are a regular requirement for firms managing trust accounts, this missing functionality can result in extra work for lawyers trying to maintain state bar compliance. Client Ledgers. Check Management. QuickBooks allows you to print and record a check on which the memo line is blank.

However, state bar rules require that the memo line include the client name and a description of the check, so to ensure compliance with this rule, you need to rely on internal processes to add the memo details to each check. Attorney Assignment. QuickBooks does not give you the option to link clients to their managing attorneys.

In fact, because the setup process involves manipulating liability accounts to work as client ledgers, QuickBooks does not even have an option to input a responsible attorney. This means that firms with more than one attorney do not have the ability to run trust activity reports for specific attorneys, making account oversight that much more complicated.
